Google Enters Ride Sharing Market with Waze Carpool

Waze, owned by Google, is a popular and trusted navigation app with millions of users that help their fellow travelers by adding reports on road activity, like traffic and cops with radar guns. This creates a fertile ground for Google to enter the ride-sharing space.

The app’s website puts it this way, “Since so many people are already using Waze to get to work, why not help a fellow commuter heading in the same direction? That’s what Waze Carpool is all about.”

The invite-only service is being introduced at first to 25,000 people who work for Adobe and Wal-Mart in the San Francisco area.
